MCBF has been instrumental in inspiring positive change and in promoting a healthy self-image among Maplewood residents and business people. There is a wonderful spirit of cooperation in the community, which will contribute to its bright future.
Our Goals
The primary goal of the MCBF is to make Maplewood a better place to live and work. We are here to increase the visibility and enhance the image of Maplewood within the St. Louis Metropolitan region and to engage the community in activities and programs that make the City of Maplewood a great place. We collaborate with organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Maplewood-Richmond Heights School District in promoting Maplewood by supporting initiatives that encourage quality, life-long educational opportunities in our community, while helping to facilitate public engagement on issues relevant to the community.
History
During the spring of 1982, City staff and local merchants began discussing the central business district’s need for rejuvenation. From these initial conversations grew the idea of creating an apolitical group with the skills and financial resources necessary to assist the entire Maplewood community revitalization effort. On May 3, 1982, the Maplewood Community Betterment Foundation was established as a non-profit corporation.
Enormous progress has been made over the past three decades since the MCBF’s creation. Investments made by the City and local businesses have paid off and a vibrancy has returned to our downtown business district and our neighborhoods. Residential property values have risen dramatically, the School District continues to improve its scores and reputation, while the community as a whole has regained its prominent position in the metropolitan region.
While much has been accomplished over the years, the MCBF remains committed to its mission of unifying businesses, government and residents so that all interest groups can work together and continue to improve the community where we live, work and play.
We’re All in This Together
Residents, businesses and government working together to make a better community, that’s what we’re all about. If you would like to be a part of what we are doing at the MCBF, we want to hear from you.
